Description: The accumulated quadrature formulas of type open Gauss are compared with the ones of type closed Newton-Cotes.
Arbitrary functions and integration intervals can be selected. Also the maximum number of recursive subdivisions of the integration interval can be chosen freely.
The output includes:
  • table with the error for each method and each set of subintervals
  • table with the ratio of the error from one set of subintervals to the next coarser one
  • plot visualizing the error decay versus the number of function evaluations
The script file demo_gauss_newton.m illustrates the usage.
The method itself is implemented in the file gauss_newton.m.
