Description: Implementation of the well known Newton method.
The file newtonmenu.m sets up a graphical user interface which was created with MATLAB-GUIDE. Three predefined examples can be chosen: polynomial, arcustangent, and sine. It is possible to alter the function itself, the initial guess, the tolerance, and the maximum number of iteration steps. Moreover, damping of the method can be switched on and off. Try the arcustangent example to see why damping may become necessary.
The output in the GUI window visualizes the procedure. The iterates are also given out in a table.
The method itself is implemented in the file newton.m.
